Michael Robbins has been with the Bexar Public Defender’s Office since it was created. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, with honors, in 1976, and received his J.D. degree from St. Mary’s University in 1979. He started his solo law practice in San Antonio in 1981. Over nearly 25 years in private practice, he specialized in criminal law, juvenile law, family law, and appellate law. He left private practice in 2005 and became one of the original Assistant Public Defenders in the county. Since coming to the office, he has filed approximately 400 briefs, including two death penalty briefs, and has argued seven cases in the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals and one juvenile case in the Supreme Court of Texas.
