Erica was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. Before becoming an Attorney, she served in the United States Air Force for nearly 8 years. She then obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 2011 and went to Law School at Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, TX where she graduated in 2014. In August 2015, she joined the Bexar County Public Defender’s Office and spearheaded the Central Magistration jail diversion program where she represented arrested persons at the initial bail hearing and diverted them into Mental Health Services instead of jail. Since 2018, Erica has been handling pretrial clients in the courtroom and seeing cases from arraignment to trial. In addition to her role in the courtroom, she is also the defense attorney for the misdemeanor DWI and Drug Specialty Courts of Bexar County. In this post-adjudication setting, she ensures the court follows due process and provides a voice for each probationer. The specialty court requires court appearances and staffing meetings frequently throughout the treatment program, which range from nine to twenty-four months.
