1. What do I need to do to become a Volunteer Youth Sports Coach?

Apply to be Youth Sports Volunteer Coach (ADD LINK). All volunteer coaches must pass a background check. That check can be completed online and Bexar County Parks & Recreation staff can email the link to prospective coaches. 2. When will I find out if I have been selected to coach a team?

Teams are formed the week following the last day of registration. Once we have assessed how many teams we will have, we will begin to assign coaches to teams. Once this is completed, a Parks & Recreation staff will contact you to notify you that you have been assigned a team and to inform you of when the Coaches’ Orientation meeting will be. This meeting will be virtual.  

3. When are practices held?

All practices will be scheduled at Rodriguez Park. Once we have assessed how many teams we will have a schedule will be created of 1 hour time blocks for practice Monday- Friday starting at 6pm. Recreation Coordinator will assign slots, younger teams will receive the earliest slots. 

4. When are the games?

Game schedules vary for each sport, but the majority of our sports are programmed for Saturday games and possibly Sunday dependent on number of teams. 

5. Do I have to provide my own equipment?

No, you do not have to provide anything. We will provide the necessary basic equipment specific to each sport. 

6. Do I have to have a child in the program to be eligible to coach?

No, you do not. We are looking for applicants who have the time, dedication, and passion for sports to offer to the youth athletes of our city.

7. Will my child be on the team that I coach?
