Hello Behavioral Health Committee,
Documentary filmmaker, Jenifer McShane, spent the last two years filming the SAPD Mental Health Unit. The name of the film is titled “Ernie and Joe” after SAPD Officers Ernie Stevens and Joe Smarro. The film recently premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas and was awarded the Grand Jury Award.

Ernie & Joe is an immersive look at the issues involved when the worlds of the mentally ill and law enforcement intersect. Part buddy film, part social commentary, and vérité in its approach, Ernie & Joe takes audiences on a personal journey, weaving together their experiences during daily encounters with people in crisis.

The Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio will host a private screening of “Ernie and Joe” on May 7th at 1830 hours and May 8th at 1230 hours.

The facility where the film will be shown is called 4th Street Crossing located at 227 4th Street, suite 150. Location is directly across the street from the First Baptist Church on Avenue B and 4th Street.
Parking is available for $10 in the parking garage above the facility.
Free parking is available in the church parking lot at McCullough and Ave B.

There are a limited number of seats available.  Please RSVP with Sgt. Bart Vasquez at to receive a ticket.
