A San Antonio man was sentenced to 46 years in prison for inappropriately touching a young girl.
A jury found Arnoldo Diaz, 53, guilty of two counts of indecency with a child by contact and one count of indecency with a child by exposure on Thursday. During the trial, evidence showed Diaz touched the girl on at least two occasions and exposed himself to her on at least one occasion in 2016. The 8-year-old victim made an outcry in September 2016. On Friday, the jury sentenced Diaz to 18 years in prison for each of the first two counts in the indictment and 10 years in prison for the third count. Judge Melisa Skinner ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.
“The defendant in this case was someone the young victim’s family knew and trusted. Her parents noticed something was not right and were able to intervene, putting a stop to this abuse. Our innocent children are vulnerable to people who prey on them. I am thankful that the jury helped give this young girl the justice she deserves,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales.
Assistant District Attorneys Rosie Garcia and Marissa Giovenco of the Family Violence Division prosecuted this case in the 437th District Court. The San Antonio Police Department investigated the crime.
