Notice of Data Security Incident

Tyler Technologies recently informed Bexar County of a data security incident that may have impacted a limited amount of personal information associated with the Bexar County online public court system. Tyler Technologies and Bexar County take the privacy and security of all information seriously, and sincerely apologize for any concern or inconvenience this may cause.

What Happened?

Tyler Technologies is the developer of the Odyssey Portal, a web-based portal software application utilized by Bexar County to display online its public court case information. Unfortunately, an error with the Odyssey Portal allowed non-public information to be accessed and “harvested” from the Portal and added to a separate online public database. Data harvesting is a process of automatically collecting or extracting information or data from the internet. The Bexar County non-public information at issue was taken offline before it was searched. There is no indication that any of personal information was viewed while part of this public database but we wanted to provide notice about this incident out of an abundance of caution. We also want you to know that the error with the software has been corrected.

What Information Was Involved?

The data harvesting activity extracted very limited information from the cover page of court records. This information included individual name, and limited information describing the particular category name of the case as filed in the Bexar County court records, such as “alcoholic,” “mental health,” medical treatment,” “mental examination,” or “financial-mental health.” No other personal data, or any other detailed information was associated with the harvested non-public information.

What We Are Doing:

Tyler Technologies and Bexar County are working together to ensure that private information is appropriately protected. Tyler Technologies has corrected the error that allowed non-public information to be accessed on the Odyssey Portal. Concerned individuals can also visit the Federal Trade Commission’s website for more information on how to protect their identity.
