A jury sentenced a San Antonio man to 33 years in prison for the shooting death of his cousin.

On Friday, the jury found Edison Carraman, 23, guilty of murder. During the trial, evidence showed that Carraman had an argument with family members and that he was going to settle the dispute with his family on March 27, 2020, in a fight. Instead, Carraman drove by the family’s home and he opened fire, killing Kristopher Carraman, 23.

The sentencing phase of the trial resumed Monday in the 437th District Court. Carraman must serve at least half of the sentence before he will be considered for parole.

“Family disputes occur, but should never be resolved by violence. This defendant’s bad decisions have lasting effects on this entire family. This jury’s verdict does not bring back Kristopher Carraman, but I hope it brings them some peace,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales.

Assistant District Attorneys David Martin and Rosie Garcia of the Family Violence Division prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the San Antonio Police Department.
