San Antonio, Texas, November 16, 2016: A Bexar County Grand Jury has indicted Ricardo Hernandez, age 21, for the Capital Murder of 4-year-old Jordan Altamirano.
On August 20, 2016, Jordan passed away at Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. Earlier that day, Hernandez had called 911 and claimed Jordan was not breathing and unresponsive. The Medical Examiner ruled Jordan’s death a homicide after discovering he died from a ruptured aorta and two spinal fractures. Under questioning by San Antonio police detectives, Hernandez, who was dating Jordan’s mother, admitted to “pushing” the boy out of frustration.
Hernandez is currently awaiting trial for Capital Murder out of the 437th District Court. Capital Murder is a felony, punishable by death or life in prison without the possibility of parole. Jordan’s mother, Celeste Nicole Altamirano, was also arrested by San Antonio police and charged with Injury to a Child – Serious Bodily Injury by Omission in connection with her son’s death. The case against Altamirano remains under review by the DA’s Office Child Abuse Unit.
