10/26/2016 - 30-Year Sentence for Man Who Sexually Assaulted Teen

San Antonio, Texas, October 26, 2016: Today, 144th District Court Judge Lorina Rummel sentenced Frederick Lee, age 39, to 30 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. On September 26, 2016, a Bexar County jury found Lee guilty of one count of Sexual Assault – Child and two counts of Indecency with Child by Contact.

In the summer of 2013, Lee sexually assaulted and inappropriately touched a then 16-year-old girl. The victim, now 19-years-old, testified during Lee’s trial last month about the abuse. The victim told jurors Lee had threatened her if she spoke of the abuse and even forced her to ingest a white powdering substance during the abuse. She said she was finally able to outcry about the abuse months later to police when they were investigating Lee for an unrelated violent incident.

During today’s sentencing hearing, prosecutors presented evidence of Lee’s past criminal history which included two prior trips to a Louisiana penitentiary for drug-related charges. Sexual Assault – Child and Indecency with Child by Contact are both second degree felonies, punishable by 2-20 years in prison and up to a $10,000.00 fine. However, the defendant’s punishment range was enhanced to 25 years to life in prison because he is considered a habitual offender. Lee must serve half of the 30 year sentence before he’s eligible for parole. Assistant District Attorneys Rita Spiegel and Trey Mims from our Child Abuse Unit prosecuted the case against Lee in the 144th District Court.
