- What does the Economic & Community Development department do?

The Economic & Community Development (ECD) department's primary role is to enhance the economy and improve the quality of life in Bexar County. They achieve this by focusing on several key areas: developing the local workforce, nurturing partnerships with local businesses, and offering community resources to support individuals and families within the community. Through these efforts, the ECD department aims to stimulate economic growth, create job opportunities, and bolster community well-being in Bexar County.
- What Divisions make up the ECD department?

The ECD department comprises four divisions: Economic Development, Community Development and Housing, Community Impact, and Social Services.
- What does each division do?

The Economic Development division manages incentive programs like the Skills Development Program, Innovation Fund, and Tax Abatements. Additionally, the division oversees the Workforce Development Program, along with various county initiatives and partnerships. Read more about the Economic division.
The Community Development division administers three HUD grants, designing and implementing programs to provide decent housing, suitable living environments, and expanded economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents in unincorporated Bexar County and 11 participating cities. The Community Impact division offers financial assistance for utilities to eligible Bexar County residents. This support aims to prevent utility disconnection and help households achieve self-sufficiency. Read more about the Community Impact division.
The Social Services division comprises three programs: Case Management, the Pauper Burial Program, and the Guardianship Program. Each program helps Bexar County residents achieve stability and sustainability during personal and/or economic hardships through compassionate and equitable service.
