Civil Filing

Civil Filing accepts all new suits and subsequent filings for civil and some family related matters filed in the Bexar County District Courts. This includes filings on delinquent tax suits, divorces, damages, personal injury, child support, paternity, change of name, protective orders, occupational driver’s license (felony case), and expunctions. Civil Filing also issues services requested on these types of cases.

Filings and new suits must be filed electronically through a state-approved electronic filing service provider. A list can be found here: http://www.efiletexas.gov/service-providers.htm. Filings and new suits over the counter in person will only be accepted for an emergency situation or from filers not represented by an attorney.

The employees of the District Clerk's Office may not give legal advice.  

The Government Code of the Texas Statutes prohibits any employee in this office from giving legal advice:            

Sec. 81.101. DEFINITION

1. In this chapter the "practice of law" means the preparation of a pleading or other document incident to an action or special proceeding or the management of the action or proceeding on behalf of a client before a judge in court as well as a service rendered out of court, including the giving of advice or the rendering of any service requiring the use of legal skill or knowledge, such as preparing a will, contract, or other instrument, the legal effect of which under the facts and conclusions involved must be carefully determined.

Sec. 81.102. STATE BAR MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED

• Except as provided by Subsection (b), a person may not practice law in this state unless the person is a member of the state bar.
