Substance Abuse Treatment Program
The Substance Abuse Treatment program works in conjunction with the following agencies to provide the defendants with the opportunity to reach and maintain sobriety in order to assist their recovery and enhance family life until their criminal case is adjudicated.
A defendant may be referred to:
- 12 Steps
- Narcotics Anonymous
- Alcoholics Anonymous
- Palmer Drug Treatment Outpatient Program (more intense program)
- Lifetime Recovery Outpatient Program
- Methadone Treatment (various locations)
- Teen Challenge (residential treatment)
- VA Hospital
- OSAR Midcoast Family Services
- Center for Health Care Services
- Any other applicable agencies
Drug Testing
Defendants may be court ordered to random or weekly drug and alcohol testing. Defendant will be required to pay $10.00 for each test administered.
Defendants taking prescribed medication(s) must bring their prescriptions or medications to the Pretrial Services Office in order to make a copy for your file.
Special Needs Unit
- On the first visit, bring a copy of current mental health diagnosis and current medications prescribed.
- If a defendant has difficulty remembering or understanding issues, it is best for someone (family member or friend) to attend their first visit with them.
- While under Special Needs Supervision (SNU), the defendant will be required to comply with all SNU conditions, which include receiving services with a psychiatrist on a regular basis and taking medications as required.
- SNU Officers will verify if the defendant is complying with their doctor appointments and mental health medication(s).
- During Special Needs Supervision, if a defendant is voluntarily or involuntarily admitted into the hospital, the defendant or a family member must contact the assigned Pretrial Officer immediately. Documentation of the defendant's admission to a facility will be verified by the SNU Officer.
- If a defendant has not been diagnosed with a mental health condition, but feels the need for mental health assistance, please speak to an officer for a referral.
Antabuse
If the court has ordered Antabuse as a condition of bond, the defendant will:
- Be required to take the Antabuse medication in pill form three (3) times per week to deter alcohol consumption.
- Antabuse is taken on the following days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the Bexar County Antabuse Clinic located at 230 Fredericksburg Road, San Antonio, Texas 78212.
- Defendants will be medically screened and evaluated by a physician. A fee of $60.00 will be charged to the defendant as services rendered.
- The Antabuse program is an offender paid program and the cost of the medication is $8.00 per pill; $24.00 per week; $96.00 per month.
- The defendants will also be required to submit to random drug and alcohol testing as a stipulation of the Antabuse order. The defendant will be required to pay a $10.00 fee for each test administered.
