On September 6, 2016 Commissioners Court approved the construction of Central Magistration Facility operated by Bexar County. Justice Intake & Assessment Annex began operating December 17, 2018.
The JIAA is a 24/7 facility operated by the Sheriff’s Office with support from several Bexar County Departments:
District Clerk’s Office
District Attorney’s Office
Mental Health Department
University Health Services
Center for Health Care Services
Public Defender’s Office
District Clerk’s Office manages the paperwork at the Justice Intake & Assessment Annex where all those arrested by local law enforcement officers are taken to be advised of their charge, bond and conditions of bond. The individual is either processed out on bond or sent to jail. The Magistrate Search on our website gives information about those being held there.
The Pretrial Services Office is comprised of the Intake Section, which is staffed twenty-four hours a day/seven days a week, located at the Justice Intake and Assessment Annex (JIAA). The intake section interviews individuals eligible for Personal Recognizance (PR) Bonds and submits the interview to the Magistrate on duty. If PR Bond is approved Pretrial Services will process the individual for release. However, if a PR Bond is denied then the individual will have to consider an alternative release plan. Pretrial Services also processes defendants requesting court appointed counsel.
Types of Bonds:
Commercial Bond – An agreement between you and a private bond company. There is a fee for this type of bond.
Attorney Bond – An agreement between you and a licensed attorney.
Cash Bond – You will be required to present a cashier’s check or money order for the full amount of the bond ordered by the judge.
PR Bond – Release ordered by a judge based on your charge and past criminal history.
