Sheriff's Deputies are granted authority by the state to enforce state law at the local county level. The primary purpose of the Law Enforcement Bureau is to uphold the laws of the jurisdiction, provide patrol, and investigate local crimes such as narcotics, assault, theft and homicides in addition to providing traffic enforcement, tactical support such as SWAT and K9. Judicial Services is responsible for serving arrest warrants, issuing court summons and other civil process within Bexar County and respond to persons in mental health crisis and transporting those in crisis to a local medical facility for treatment.

Criminal Investigations Division

The primary function of the Criminal Investigations Division is to conduct follow-up investigations of reported crimes. These investigations consist of interviewing suspects, victims, and witnesses; analyzing information for validity, reliability, and accuracy; and compiling a comprehensive and factual case file to be presented in court. The Criminal Investigations Division has four primary Investigative Sections, General Crimes, Crimes against Persons, Property Crimes, and Narcotics.
