Bexar County Clerk’s Operational Changes COVID-19

The County Clerk’s Office is committed to providing our essential services to the public. Please be advised that in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the County Clerk’s Office is implementing additional measures to reduce exposure and encourage social distancing. 

Effective March 23, 2020, visitors will be limited to a maximum of 5 individuals at a time in our departments. We encourage constituents to use phone, email and web resources prior to visiting our office. 

Completing an application for a Marriage License and/or Assumed Business Name/DBA online before arriving will reduce wait times. Constituents will need to schedule an appointment for these services online before they visit our office. 

If you need to request a certified document in any of our departments, please call our office prior to your visit. This will allow us to have the requested document(s) ready when you arrive.

One of the first steps to starting your business is naming it. Once you have the perfect name, you need to obtain your "Doing Business As" record, also known as a DBA or Assumed Name through the Bexar County Clerk’s Office. This is the first step to doing business in Bexar County. Getting your DBA is easy. The first thing to do is come up with a good name for your business. Then, confirm that it is available by performing a search in the County Clerk records. (Note: In order to search for an Assumed Name, you must register with the page by clicking the "Register" button) Click on the "Login - Search" button and log into your account, then click "Name" under the search menu. Here, enter the business name you want, select "Assumed Name" under the Instrument Type" and click "Go Search." If you don’t see it, you can register it.

Once you know it is available, download the appropriate "Assumed Name Certificate" form for the type of business you are forming (Unincorporated, such as a sole proprietorship or Incorporated, such as an LLC) and take it to the County Clerk in the Paul Elizondo Tower, located at 101 W. Nueva, room 120 (Marriage Licenses & Assumed Names). An assumed business name is good for ten (10) years.

The office is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday.
