Nuestra Historia – Our History: Spain in Bexar presents Spanish colonial documents that illustrate the early exploration and settlement of San Antonio and other parts of present-day Texas.
Featuring documents from the General Archive of the Indies in Seville, Spain – alongside archival documents from local repositories, the story of settling the new frontier. Maps, architectural drawings, and mission inventories demonstrate the Spanish zeal for documentation of their colonization efforts. Interactions with indigenous peoples, struggles to protect their territory, and competition for resources are revealed.
Exhibit lenders include the General Archive of the Indies, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library, the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at The University of Texas at Austin, and the Our Lady of the Lake University Center for Mexican American Studies and Research.
