The Bexar County Sheriff's Office Is Responsible For Establishing And Maintaining A Law Enforcement Agency, Serving The Courts, Operating The County Jail And Providing Law Enforcement For The Unincorporated Areas Of Bexar County.

With nearly 1900 employees and $135 Million operating budget, it is the 11th largest sheriff's office in the nation. As one of the fastest growing counties in the nation, Bexar County covers 1257 square miles and has a population of more than 1.8 million people.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement for the unincorporated areas of the county, which covers 61 percent of the land area and includes 20 percent of the population. With an average daily population of around 3600 inmates, the Bexar County Adult Detention Center is the 16th largest jail in the nation and the third largest jail in Texas. 

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is also charged with providing security for 58 judges in six different buildings and more than three million visitors to the Court Services Complex Annually.
