The Office of Criminal Justice Policy, Planning & Programs
Mission & Overview
- The Policy Office acts as a local leader for criminal justice policy, training, and technical assistance to advance the direction of justice. It also acts as a connecting point with national, state and local organizations to set policy and help broadcast information on the best practices.
- The Programs Office organizes and manages Bexar County local grant programs. It functions as a direct line of communication to local nonprofits and the community because the office is responsible for providing assistance and coordinating resources.
- The Planning Office is responsible for providing overall County-wide coordination. It handles planning, communications and budget formulation and execution.

Crime Lab
The Criminal Investigation Laboratory is an independent, fee-for-service, forensic laboratory operated by Bexar County in San Antonio, Texas. The Criminal Investigation Laboratory offers services in Drug Identification, Evidence Receiving, Firearms, Serology/DNA and Trace Evidence.

Dispute Resolution Center
The Dispute Resolution Center´s goal is to serve the community as a resource for resolving disputes of all kinds.

Department of Behavioral Health
The Mission of the Department of Behavioral Health is to act as Commissioner’s Court advocate, expert, and clearinghouse on community mental health issues and programs; and lead in planning, coordinating, advocating, and organizing community behavioral health stakeholders in activities to continuously improve the availability of services in Bexar County.

Medical Examiners
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office is committed to the accurate determination of cause and manner of death in cases falling under the jurisdiction of the office. As an impartial, independent agency, the Medical Examiner strives to serve the public, medical professionals and justice system of our community by providing objective, valid and unbiased medical opinions on cause and manner of death. To this end, we insist on nothing less than excellence in practice, scrupulous integrity, and continuous quality improvement efforts.

Re-Entry Services
The Bexar County Reentry Program can increase the level of employability, help offenders obtain higher educational levels and/or vocational training and give them a pride of ownership in our community.

These Specialty Courts are based under The Office of Criminal Justice.

Felony Drug Court
The Felony Drug Court is under The Office of Criminal Justice branch and is presided by the Honorable Judge Ernie Glenn.

Mental Health Court
The mission of the Mental Health Court is to advocate for incarcerated persons with mental illness and to provide access to mental health treatment, community resources, and support to reduce their involvement in the criminal justice system. With advocacy and support, the Mental Health Court will help a person improve mental health stability, self-sufficiency, strive to reach their full potential and to live a law abiding life.

Misdemeanor DWI Court
The Mission of the Bexar County DWI Court is to increase public safety and offender accountability through therapeutic judicial management, collaborative treatment, education and supervision. The goal of the Court is to promote more responsible and productive members of the community, thereby decreasing recidivism and reducing costs.

Veterans Court
The Bexar County Veterans Court promotes sobriety, recovery and stability through a coordinated response that involves the cooperation and collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs health care networks, the Veterans Benefits Administration, volunteer veteran mentors, veterans family support organizations, the Center for Health Care Services and the Bexar County Veterans Services Office.
