Public Integrity Unit & Law Enforcement Integrity Unit
Public Integrity Unit
The Public Integrity Unit investigates and prosecutes crimes committed by public servants including elected officials and government employees. Additionally, the Public Integrity Unit prosecutes computer crimes against children, such as online solicitation of a minor and possession of child pornography. Complex financial crimes are also handled by the investigators and prosecutors in Public Integrity.
Law Enforcement Integrity Unit
District Attorney LaHood launched the Law Enforcement Integrity Unit in June 2016. The Law Enforcement Integrity Unit focuses on the investigation and review of officer-involved shootings, allegations of improper use of force and other police misconduct.
“If law enforcement officers break the law, they need to be held accountable but if they did nothing wrong, they should be exonerated,” said District Attorney LaHood. “We need to continue to build trust with the community and with law enforcement. The community needs to be assured we will prosecute anyone who breaks the law – it doesn’t matter if the suspect is a police officer, a doctor, or anybody else.”
The District Attorney’s Office conducts an independent review of each and every officer-involved shooting that occurs within Bexar County. The Unit, which is within the Special Crimes Division, consists of seasoned Assistant District Attorneys and experienced criminal investigators.
