State District JudgeMichael E. Mery currently serves on the bench of the 37th Judicial District Court. Other highlights of his thirty-four year legal career include dispensing justice as the first judge of Bexar County Court-at-Law #12, where he presided for over 11 years and helped establish Bexar County's first mental health court. Judge Mery also served as Assistant Attorney General of Texas, where he was Section Chief of Child Abuse Litigation, and as an Assistant District Attorney of Bexar County, where he specialized in protecting children from child abuse.
During the twelve years that he was engaged in the private practice of law, Judge Mery handled a wide variety of cases with diligence, competence and tenacity.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Judge Mery is fluent in Spanish. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1974; Cornell University in 1978, with a BA in government; and the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1982.
Judge Mery has been married to his wife, Laura Mery, Ph.D, since 1983. They are the proud parents of four children and two grandchildren.
