Our Office
The Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector is a constitutional officer mandated by the Texas Constitution, elected by and directly responsible to the people. The Constitution of the State of Texas of 1845 originally set up an elected office of Assessor and Collector of Taxes. Many changes have taken place in the last 175 years, leading to the current responsibilities of County Tax Assessor-Collectors. Assessor-Collectors are elected to four-year terms and are one of only two constitutionally mandated county-wide elected positions.
The Office of the Tax Assessor-Collector provides services for Property Tax Collections, Motor Vehicle Registration and Titling Functions, and Beer, Wine, and Liquor Permits.
The Bexar County Tax Office collects ad valorem property taxes for Bexar County, the Road and Flood Control Fund, and 64 other taxing entities. This includes 24 municipalities, 12 school districts, and 28 special districts. In 2018, the Bexar County Tax Office issued license plates/stickers for over 1.6 million vehicles, processed 491,927 title transfers, issued 30,349 handicap placards, and issued 3,739 beer, wine, and liquor permits. Over 4 billion dollars in Bexar County property taxes were also collected and disbursed.
