DISTRICT ATTORNEY OBTAINS TEMPOARY INJUNCTION AGAINST THE EAST TERRACE GANGSTERS
San Antonio: August 11, 2008: Today, District Judge Andy Mireles granted the District Attorney’s request for a temporary injunction creating a new safety zone in an area that has been plagued by gang violence and drug dealing. The District Attorney alleges that the gang’s drug dealing and weapons offenses create a public nuisance. The Court found that the defendants are members of a criminal street gang, the East Terrace Gangsters, which has continuously and regularly engaged in gang activity in the safety zone. The Court also ruled that unless enjoined, the Defendants will continue to use the East Side Safety Zone to engage in gang activity. This gang activity includes weapons and narcotics offenses. Among the 30 listed prohibited acts aimed at breaking up the conspiratorial association, the injunction prohibits the named gang members from: 1) associating with other gang members in public within the safety zone, 2) carrying weapons, 3) possessing alcohol while in the safety zone, 4) possessing implements of graffiti, and 5) harassing or intimidating residents of the safety zone. A hearing on the Permanent Injunction is scheduled for November 17, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. in the 73rd District Court.
The safety zone is bordered on the North by East Commerce Street, on the West by Aurelia and Hampton Streets, on the South by Roland Avenue, and on the East by Pecan Valley Drive, Brooksdale Drive and Dafoste.
