CFO OF LOCAL ENGINEERING FIRM SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR EMBEZZELMENT

San Antonio, Texas; January 23, 2008:   Bexar County District Attorney Susan D. Reed announced today that Dennis Weiss, age 58, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.  His application for probation was denied.    Weiss entered a plea of guilty before 144th District Court Judge Cathy Torres-Stahl to Misapplication of Fiduciary Property in an Amount Over $200,000.

The allegations arose over Weiss’s conduct as the Chief Financial Officer of Raba-Kistner Consultants, Inc.  The State, through its indictment, alleged he stole over $1.6 million from the company over the course of six years.  Records seized by the District Attorney’s Office showed that he used the stolen monies to live an extravagant lifestyle including the purchase of a $14,000 engagement ring for his fiancée and building a retirement home in Mexico.

As part of the plea agreement, the defendant had already repaid nearly $690,000.00 to the company.  This restitution amount included surrendering his fiancée’s engagement ring as well as forfeiting funds in his 401(k) retirement plan and company stock options.
