SUSAN D. REED
CRIMINAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY
BEXAR COUNTY, TEXAS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LIFE SENTENCE HANDED TO MURDERER
San Antonio , Texas ; February 27, 2007:
Bexar County District Attorney Susan Reed announced that Ervin Ellison, age 36, was handed a life sentence today by a Bexar County jury for the offense of murder. Ellison, a habitual Felon, had an argument with the victim, Gerald Lee, age 39, at Santa's bar on Spriggsdale after the victim had an altercation with Ellison's intoxicated girlfriend. After being thrown out of the bar, both the victim and Ellison ended up at an apartment complex on Lavender Lane. The victim saw Ellison with a gun in his hand and ran away with Ellison in hot pursuit. They disappeared behind an apartment building. Witnesses heard 2 to 3 gunshots. Ellison re-emerged from behind the building, jumped into his car with his girlfriend and fled the location. Witnesses discovered the victim dead from two bullet wounds. Police arrived and took statements from several witnesses who knew and identified Ellison. Ellison was arrested and eventually gave a videotaped statement to police admitting chasing the victim with a gun but denied shooting him, claiming instead that someone else did the shooting. Obviously, the jury did not buy it.
