SUSAN D. REED
CRIMINAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY
BEXAR COUNTY, TEXAS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PERMANENT INJUNCTION OBTAINED AGAINST EASTSIDE GANG
San Antonio, Texas;
October 24, 2005:
District Attorney Susan Reed announced today that her request for a permanent injunction against certain
gang members and creating the Eastside Safety Zone II has been granted by District Judge Andy Mireles. The Eastside
Safety Zone II covers a neighborhood that has been plagued by gang violence and drug dealing. The District Attorney
alleged and the court found that the gang’s ongoing criminal activity creates a public nuisance.
The Permanent Injunction Order prohibits 15 named Defendants who are members or associates of the “East Terrace Gangsters”
from committing certain acts within the safety zone, including associating with each other or other known members of the
East Terrace Gangsters and remaining together in any public place to conceal or engage in illegal activities. The court
found that the Defendants are members of a criminal street gang that has continuously and regularly engaged in gang
activity in the established safety zone. The court also ruled that unless enjoined these Defendants will continue to
use the East Side Safety Zone II to engage in said gang activity. The criminal activity ranged from Aggravated Assaults
to repeated Possession and Delivery of Controlled Substances, often in areas near schools. The Permanent Injunction is
in effect until December 31, 2007.
The safety zone encompasses an area bordered on the north by E. Commerce St., on the west by Spriggsdale and Cora Avenue,
on the south by Roland Avenue and on the east by Pecan Valley Drive, Brooksdale St. and Dafoste Ave.
District Attorney Susan Reed sought this injunction in order to make the neighborhood a safer place to live.
“People have a right to live in safe and drug free neighborhoods and gang injunctions are a valuable crime
fighting tool we use to reach this goal,” said District Attorney Susan Reed.
