DISTRICT ATTORNEY REED APPOINTED TO NATIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE BOARD

District Attorney Susan Reed of Bexar County, Texas has been appointed to the Council of State Governments Justice Center's (CSG Justice Center) Board of Directors. Tom Stickrath, Superintendent at Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Chair of the board, made the announcement.

Ms. Reed joins a small, bipartisan group of approximately 20 legislative leaders, court officials and law enforcement executives, and members of several governors’ cabinets from corrections and health and human services agencies, to serve on the CSG Justice Center’s board. Together, they guide the center’s various projects, which focus on areas ranging from mental health, to reentry, to justice reinvestment, juvenile justice, and school discipline.

State officials across the country have used the findings and technical assistance provided through CSG Justice Center projects to develop legislative initiatives. Congress has also worked closely with leaders of the board, drawing on recommendations from the CSG Justice Center to shape national policy.

“We are delighted that Judge Reed has been appointed to our board,” said Michael Thompson, Director of the CSG Justice Center. “She is spearheading exhaustive analyses in San Antonio that we think model the type of data-driven policy that counties everywhere should follow. She is also a key voice on public safety issues in Texas. Judge Reed will make a great contribution to our work.”

“I am looking forward to using our experiences in Texas to help inform the board’s efforts, and I know that working with such a diverse group of national experts will benefit my state and others by advancing the best thinking on complex criminal justice issues,” said Ms. Reed.
