FORMER OFFICE MANAGER SENTENCED
TO PRISON FOR THEFT FROM EMPLOYER

Today, Bexar County District Attorney Susan D. Reed announced that Misty Casanova, age 32, was sent to prison by 379th District Court Judge Ron Rangel, for a period of 15-years for the offense of Theft $200,000 or more, a first-degree felony.

From 2006 to 2010, while working as the manager of a local dentist’s office, Casanova stole in excess of $200,000. Casanova would make checks payable to herself and her boyfriend and use the office’s credit cards without authorization. Casanova used the money for personal benefit including car and utility payments. Among the expenditures of the stolen money were ticket purchases for Monster Jam, Beyonce, Chamillionaire, Lil Wayne, Silver Stars, and the Spurs. Casanova also deposited some of the money in her boyfriends’ commissary account while he was in custody.

Under the plea agreement, the defendant was to be sentenced to no more than 20-years and the State opposed the defendant’s application for community supervision. A first-degree felony is punishable by confinement from five years up to 99-years or life and a possible fine of up to $10,000 dollars.
