The Bexar County Child Welfare Board is composed of Bexar County Commissioners Court appointees. The Board advocates for the protection of children from abuse and neglect and serves as a conduit between Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) and community to increase public awareness of child welfare program policies and needs. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) contracts with Bexar County and the Child Welfare Board to facilitate implementation and administration of the Children's Protective Services Program. The Board develops policies involving payment to non-custody foster care provides, clothing for foster children, funds for in-home services (Family Based Safety Services), adoption services and promotes fund raising activities. Through these policies and the Board's role in the community, the effectiveness of TDFPS programs for child protection is increased.
MISSION
The Bexar County Child Welfare Board oversees that appropriate services are provided to all abused, neglected and at risk children in Bexar County.
LONG-TERM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Interpret the services of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to the community and the Commissioner's Court. Coordinate use of federal, state and local funds for foster care and treatment and the expansion of the full range of Children's Protective Services.

Advise Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS), Child Protective Services Agency (CPS) about local policies related to expenditure of county funds.

Communicate needs and priorities of the community to the Commissioner's Court and Children's Protective Services staff.

Review quality of services being rendered by the CPS units.

Prepare and present an annual budget to the Commissioner's Court and authorize spending county funds for appropriated purposes.
