On Christmas day 2006 a fire was started through unknown means at the "Mulch Mountain" located in Helotes. Local firefighters did their best to supress the fire but due to the sheer magnatude of the huge brush pile, and, environmental concerns, they were unable to put the fire out.  On January 11, 2007 Precinct 2 deputies were tasked to provide security at the site of the fire. To add natures little twist to an already bad situation, the Bexar County area was hit with one of the worst winter storms in many years, covering everything with a sheet of ice. 

Update: 03/28/2007:  As of this week the fire is officially out.  For a little over three months Pct.2 Deputies have provided 24 hour security to the fire site. As of this friday we finally say goodbye to "Mulchie".  Here are some photos to remind us of what it was like;
