NEWS RELEASE COMMISSIONER ADKISSON Leads the effort to create first EMERGENCY SERVICES DISTRICT #1 _________________________________________________
Congratulations to Converse Area on Making History!
Congratulations to the voters and residents in the Converse area on the passage of the historic "first" emergency services district in Bexar County! The neighborhoods that secured fire and medical protection by voting for the district include Crownwood, Miller's Point, Summit Ridge, Walzem Park, Dover, Fields of Dover, Meadowbrook and Spring Meadows/Ventura II.
The next step is for the vote to be confirmed by Commissioner's Court in the form of a Court Order and declaring the district into existence. Once that is done, the Court will accept applications for those individuals seeking to be on the Emergency Service District Number One Board of Directors. A requirement of the law is for applicants to be residents of the district area. The City of San Antonio has worked cooperatively to allow for this District to be formed and we at the County look forward to continuing the spirit of cooperation in this new endeavor.
The timeframe for accepting applications for and making appointments by the Commissioner's Court to the position of Director would be about sixty days. Appointments will be made in collaboration with citizens, neighborhood leaders, governmental entities and other appropriate individuals. In the meantime, I am informed by Mayor Martin that the City of Converse will meet on May 15 to consider reinstatement of fire service to the Emergency Service District Area.
