NEWS RELEASE COMMISSIONER ADKISSON appoints JOE EDMONSON to University Health System Board of Managers ______________________________________________
Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson recently appointed Joe D. Edmonson to the University Health Systems Board of Managers. Edmonson is retired from Randolph Air Force Base where he served as chief of Personnel Division at Headquarters Air Training Command.
Edmonson was employed at Randolph for 35 years and brings to the Health System a great deal of experience in public policy, personnel, administration and labor relations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry and mathematics from Morris Brown College in Atlanta and pursued a master's degree at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Over the past several decades, Edmonson has served the community through a number of governmental boards and volunteer organizations. This service includes chairing the boards of directors for Bexar County Tax Appraisal Review Board, AVANCE Family Support and Education Programs and a 16-county Headstart program in Mississippi. He has also held the position of vice chairman for the San Antonio International Advisory Board and served on Trinity University Institutional Review Board.
Edmonson has been dedicated to community service for most of his adult life. "To serve the public or community is an opportunity and is a high calling," said Edmonson. "It provides an opportunity to address problems, assist in formulating corrective policy and furthering the philosophy of the people, by the people and for the people."
The Board of Managers for University Health System consists of seven members appointed to two-year terms. The panel is the governing body for the Health System, Which includes University Hospital and five clinics located throughout the San Antonio community.
