ADDITIONALLY:
The three hybrid trucks are true ‘work trucks' that have five to seven yard dump bodies on them. They are designed to move the load with electric power combined with very clean diesel power as required by road and load conditions. This new technology has emissions reduction up to 70% and fuel consumption reduction of 30-50%. These trucks are also crew cab models allowing transport of a complete load with crew to a jobsite therefore eliminating the need for additional vehicles.
"By investing in these trucks, we show our commitment to clean air, said Commissioner Adkisson. "The outdated dirty diesel burning trucks should be a thing of the past," he added. "I'm extremely proud that Bexar County was the first in the state to commit to this type of advanced technology." Rick Hendricks of Kenworth Trucks agreed. "We hope that other companies and counties follow Bexar County's lead and commit to green," said Hendricks. "These trucks will be out in the county daily, contributing to clean air that is vital to a healthy community," said Hendricks.
