Bexar County, Texas to Fight for Energy Economy & Independence

Yes, we do not intend to be completely subject to the whim of the oil market with all of its cartels and foreign influences.  We will be the masters of our own destiny in Bexar County!  Simultaneously, we will initiate a new era of cleaner, healthier air because at least a certain percentage of local vehicles will use cleaner burning ethanol or E-85.  We will also support renewable energy that has an unlimited supply.  Finally, we will send our money for E-85 to Texas corn farmers, not the oil-monopolists of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) halfway across the world!

The Alamo Area Clean Cities is a coalition of more than 50 stakeholders, including private businesses, state agencies, the County of Bexar, the Texas Railroad Commission, Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), and other counties and municipalities in our region.

The goals of this important coalition are to reduce fuel costs, lower vehicle emissions, improve air quality, and reduce dependence on foreign oil by pursuing practical alternatives to gasoline and diesel powered vehicles.

The Coalition further reminds us that "55% of the total consumption of petroleum in the US is imported.  As recently as 1980 imports represented just 37%, but the Department of Energy estimates that by 2025 dependence will increase to nearly 70%!  Obviously, we are headed in the wrong direction."

So what do we expect?  We expect cleaner air and domestically produced fuel that is renewable.  To do this, we need a source energy that will remove us from the grips of oil cartels and countries distant, uncertain and hostile!  Today, we proudly lead the State of Texas in providing a diversity of sources for our energy needs.  Bottom line in addition to the above, we are preserving the world's most robust democracy by ensuring the endurance of our economic and national security.  Won't you join us as we advance this noble cause?
