Vincent Walker

Deputy Vincent "Jerry" Walker died as result a gunshot on February 1, 1973. Walker and Reserve Deputy Joshua Rodriguez, stopped a van, 1/4 of a mile, south of Huebner Rd., on Bandera Rd. for a license plate violation. Ten minutes later, a citizen notified the dispatcher that the two deputies had been shot. Walker was lying in the roadway, shot in the head and died at the scene. Later that night, Sheriffs Deputies and San Antonio Police arrested Roger Hester, 27 and Randall Louis Neyman, 20 for the Murders. They were later convicted for Capital Murder and both received a life sentence. Hester was paroled after serving only 25 years. "Jerry" Walker, 24, joined the Sheriffs Office in 1968 as a dispatcher, then transferred to patrol. Walker had traded his daylight shift with another deputy, in order to work night shifts. "Jerry" Walker was a graduate of Peacock Military Academy and played football. Walker was divorced and survived by a 2-year old son; father, Dr. Vincent Walker; mother Mrs. Donald Beard. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park.
