Deputy George Petrogallo died as result of a traffic accident. Petrogallo, who was injured when his patrol car went out of control and struck railings on an Interstate Highway 10 underpass at Fresno on the afternoon of May 8, died in a hospital on May 9. Petrogallo, 46 had just reported for duty and was answering a burglary call in northwest Bexar County when his car skidded on wet pavement during heavy rain. The vehicle struck one overpass railing, then the other, throwing him from the car. Petrogallo, who retired from the Air Force after more then 20 years service, joined the sheriff’s office in 1963. His survivors included a son.
