The
division originated in January 1985. This Division was begun in a
12' X 14' room in the basement of the Old Bexar County
Courthouse. This room was the staffing area for 1 Civilian Clerk,
35 Officers, 1 Lieutenant and 1 Deputy Chief, kind of tight!
During this period the Bailiffs were assigned strictly to the
Judges of the court.
The average age of these officers were in their 50-60's,
considered a retirement job. There were approximately 30 District
and County Courts up and running at this time. Even with all this
considered this Division was still one of the largest in the State
of Texas.
