Deputy Adrian Aguilar died as a result of gunshot on June 30, 1985. Aguilar was returning to the Bexar County Jail from Medical Center Hospital where he had been assigned to guard a hospitalized prisoner. He had been notified to return to the jail, and was in the process of exiting Interstate 10 at Santa Rosa Street, when he was shot by an assailant from the passenger side of a passing auto. Aguilar, 21, dressed in his uniform and was driving his personal vehicle, was found, slumped behind the steering wheel, with a gunshot wound to his back. He died several hours later. There were no witnesses to the crime, and the death of Deputy Aguilar has never been solved. Captain Dan Gabehart stated " This was a cowardly, gutless act." Survivors included his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Aguilar and young son, Adrian Jason Aguilar. Interment was at San Fernando Cemetery.
