Frank B. Ackermann

Deputy Frank B. Ackermann was shot on September 18, 1937. Ackermann and Special Deputy Lennis Brice went to the I.&G.N. Hotel, located at 118 Medina street, answering a call for a man with a gun. Upon entering the Hotel, Ackermann encountered Ray Prior, from Donna Texas in the hotel lobby with a gun. Ackermann chased Prior up the stairs to the entrance of the second floor where a gun battle took place. Ackermann and Prior were wounded in the exchange of gunfire. On September 20, 1937, Deputy Ackermann died of his wounds. He had served as a Peace Officer for five years, acting as a special agent for the Landowners and Hunters association before becoming a deputy sheriff on January 1, 1937. Survivors of the deputy were his widow, Mrs. Iva Ackermann; four brothers, Ed, Alfred and Dewey Ackermann of Pratt and George Ackermann of Wetmore, and sisters, Mrs. Edwin Uecker and Mrs.E.H. Klaus of San Antonio; three stepsons, Kenneth, Joe, and Norman Jones. Interment was in the Bueche family cemetery.
