I received a listing of commodity and subcommodity codes as part of the Bidder Application. Why are these important?
These codes identify the specific products and services that Vendors offer and are used in search criteria for building the list of Competitors for purchases requiring competition.



Does Bexar County use the State of Texas contracts?
Yes. Section 271.081 through 271.083 of the Texas Local Government Code requires the State Purchasing and General Services Commission to establish a local government purchasing program and authorized Bexar County to participate in the program.



How do I get on the County's Automated vendor list?
To get on the County's Automated Vendor List, a Bexar County Bidder's Application must be completed and delivered or mailed to the Bexar County Purchasing Office. Applications may be requested by phone 210-335-2211, downloaded from the Bexar County website or picked up from the Purchasing office.



What are the abbreviations IFB, RFP, RFQ and RFO?
These abbreviations refer to various types of solicitation documents that are used, depending on the type of purchase and are defined below:

IFB - Invitation for Bid - A document used to request bid prices for commodities and services for which the specification are well defined and the determining factor is price, providing that bidders meet the specifications, terms and conditions of the IFB.

RFP - Request for Proposal - A document requesting an offer be made by a vendor, which allows for negotiation after proposals have been received but before award of a contract for high technology goods or services, such as computer hardware and software or insurance.

RFQ - Request for Quotation - A document requesting prices for commoditites and services for which the specifications are well defined and the determining factor is price. This is used when the estimated amount of the requisition in under $25,000.

RFO - Request for Offer - A document used for soliciting offers from State Catalogue (QISV) vendors authorized by the State of Texas General Services Commission.



How can I improve my chances at participation in the County's "small dollar" procurements?
On way is to deliver product catalogs and line sheet to County buyers in the Purchasing Office.
