Parking at the SBC Center
Commissioner Tommy Adkisson
December 12, 2002

Just recently I read a letter to the Editor of the Express-News that and individual was charged $20.00 to park for a pre-game performance of his daughter.  This seems outrageous at first blush so I called Mr. Leo Gomez, Vice-President of the San Antonio Spurs to find out what the SBC Center is doing to educate the public about the parking fees they can expect when they attend an event at the Arena.  I use the reference to the SBC Center because that is the name of the venue and the Spurs are a part but not the entirety of what goes on at the SBC Center.

First of all, at a capacity concert such as the George Strait event, the parking tickets in the premium lots which are closer to the front door of the SBC Center, go for $10.00 each, first come, first served.  For Rampage hockey, you can pay as low as $3.00 or as high at $6.00 for the best parking.  The WNBA will charge $5.00 to $8.00 from the cheapest to the best parking spaces.

Please keep in mind that you may take VIA from Randolph, Downtown or Crossroads at $5.00 for adults and $2.50 for children.

The SBC Center has more ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) spaces than any other public venue in the community!  Coincidentally, the SBC Center also has 7,000 parking spaces, more than any other public venue in the County!  With two adjoining lots, the 7,000 spaces grow to 10,000 spaces total available for parking.  Also worthy of note is the fact that the SBC Center have progressed from parking around its previous venue in dark, private yards without security to parking in secure, well-paved and lit lots.

It is also important to note that privately owned cars, drive-up taxis, limousines, shuttle buses and VIAtrans service can take you to the very front door of the arena if you so desire.

Substantial efforts have been made by the SBC Center to educate the public as to the prices and closeness of the various parking for events.

The first is the Website of the SBC Center located at  This site has a wealth of information about the SBC Center including a very important e-mail feature, telephone numbers or the address for the public to communicate with the Center.

Next, the Center offers parking information on purchase of an event ticket at the Spurs Ticket Office (Southeast Corner of the Arena) or Ticketmaster located across the City.

Finally, over 50,000 brochures were sent in three separate mailings to likely Arena customers prior to the opening of the SBC Center!

I hope that this is of some help to my many friends in the community to understand parking at the SBC Center and that this Center is dedicated to being a first-class facility in all respects and a first-class experience for all.
