2nd Annual Resource Recovery Roundtable
Commissioner Tommy Adkisson
June 13, 2002

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14th, Bexar County, along with the City of San Antonio, AACOG, and Keep San Antonio Beautiful, will be hosting the 2nd Annual Resource Recovery Roundtable at the Heritage Room of St. Philip's College.  This event will include guest speakers on areas of reusing, reducing and recycling.  It is open to the public for a nominal admission of $10.00 and includes a box lunch.

Bob Tome, Manager of ESH&Q, Dennis Patton, Manager, Consultants, Inc., and Paul Lampey, Vice President of Raba Kistner, will speak under the topic of "How to Save Money by Recycling Pavement and Cement."  This involves the process of reusing pavement and cement that has been torn up from parking lots, streets, sidewalks, etc.  One of the first streets to use this process was layed out about 3 months ago in the Northwest area of San Antonio.

Morning panel discussions include Tires, Green Purchasing, and one on Composting.  Each of these panels will bring important and new information about how these areas serve the conservation of our natural resources and opposed to merely landfilling these items into eternity, largely in Precinct Four.  The panelists will discuss the importance of participation and alternatives to what has been known as the primary if not the only way to dispose of tires, grass clippings, and construction leftovers.

One of the brightest talents on the local scene, Rose Zuniga-Dent, Solid Waste Manager from the City of San Antonio will speak on "The Evolution of Recycling:  A Decade in Review". Rose Zuñiga-Dent, began work with the City of San Antonio on May 15, 2001. She is a San Antonio native, has 28 years experience as a Solid Waste professional, starting her career in the early ‘70's in Houston, Texas. She has had private industry experience with the nation's leading solid waste management company while earning her Business Administration degree at the University of Houston.
