ENTERPRISE DATA CENTER

The Enterprise Data Center Division (EDC) provides 24-hour, 7-days-a-week, 365 days-a-year operation of production services to all Bexar County personnel and outside customers who access Bexar County information through the County Computer Resources.

The EDC staff is responsible for all computer, communication, data resources and the supporting infrastructure.  They provide mainframe, network, and communication support to insure that Bexar County Departments have maximum use of these resources. They are accountable for the infrastructure integrity of all Bexar County records by providing security and backup recovery for any anomaly or adversity.

Working behind the scenes, the EDC is responsible for keeping all Bexar County mainframe computer resources running at peak efficiency.  They do such an efficient job you hardly realize that they're there, until you require assistance.  Because they are the crucial link for keeping all County Departments functional, the EDC is considered the heartbeat of Bexar County operations.

EDC OPERATIONS

The ENTERPRISE DATA CENTER is comprised of four distinct Divisions, each with a high level of responsibility.

The EDC OPERATIONS Division is the 24x7x365 section that is responsible for all of the Data Center's Mainframe computer system, communications, and data security and infrastructure. The Shift Supervisors, Lead Computer Operators and Computer Operators are required to make sure that all departments are accessing their applications at all times. They are responsible for daily processing of all County data and printing of all reports, forms and summons. This part of the operation and EDC Data Control are supervised by the EDC Coordinator.

The EDC PRODUCTION CONTROL division is responsible for tracking and analyzing data on all mainframe computer jobs that fail. Staffed by Production Control Analysts, they review data and propose solutions for improvements in order to minimize the number of failures that could occur. They prepare detailed reports of all EDC job failures and preside over weekly meetings
with the mainframe staff to discuss these failures. The data collected becomes part of the divisional Performance indicators.

EDC SYSTEMS Division, made up of a Systems Programming Administrator and Systems Programmers, is responsible for Bexar County software. They install all new software, maintain and upgrade all existing software, and support all old and new hardware that is part of the mainframe computer system.

The EDC DATA CONTROL Division, staffed by a Data Control Supervisor, Data Control Specialist and Media Librarian, is responsible for the scheduling of all county records processing on the mainframe computer system. They also back up and archive all County data on the mainframe computer as well as provide disaster recovery security. They are responsible for the scheduling, tracking and problem resolution of all scheduled jobs, and report distribution to all departments by insuring that each department has their required output in a timely manner.
