Kindergarten Teacher Indicted in Student Bullying Case

The Bexar County Grand Jury today returned a true bill of indictment against Cynthia Ambrose, 43, for the offense of Official Oppression. The indictment alleges that on May 2, 2012, Ambrose, a former kindergarten teacher at Salinas Elementary in the Judson Independent School District, directed students in her class to line up and strike a 6 year kindergarten student as punishment for acting like a bully. The investigation revealed that at least seven children allegedly struck the complainant. The child did not sustain any injuries.

The incident was reported by a fellow teacher and an investigation was conducted by the Judson I.S.D. Police Department, culminating in today's indictment. Ambrose is no longer employed by Judson I.S.D.

A public servant commits the offense of Official Oppression where she subjects another to unlawful mistreatment while acting under the color of her employment. The offense is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine.
