STATUS
A partnership between the national Western Art Foundation, City of San Antonio and Bexar County will create the Dolph and Janey Briscoe Western Art Museum. Opening in 2010, The Briscoe Museum will be dedicated to the preservation, interpretation, an creation of the art of the American West. It will tell the story of San Antonio, the Southwest and the great American West through art and artifacts with a multicultural and multifaceted focus. The Briscoe Museum will be a leader in the field of American Western Art and history through innovative exhibitions, educational programs, and other services for the general public, artists, collectors, and museums..
It will strengthen visitors' understanding and appreciation of the history of San Antonio and the great American West by viewing Western Art and complementary historical artifacts. Patrons, especially children, will be able to incorporate that knowledge into a better appreciation of their community and an understanding of the art world as a whole. In addition to the museum, there will be an adjacent pavilion of which 5,000 square feet will be dedicated as a special event space surrounded by one of a kind original paintings and sculptures created by world renowned Western artists. The Briscoe Museum's Pavilion an sculpture Garden will be a truly one-of-a-kind unique presence on the Riverwalk.

The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts
This is a great day for San Antonio! The City of San Antonio provided the basic facilities and property for this project the voters of Bexar County overwhelmingly approved the visitor tax bond issue and allocated $100 million in 2008.
The Tobin Endowment's $15 million gift is going to kick-start one of the great public/private collaborations in the history of San Antonio. We're all motivated by the same thing-to create a beautiful new performing arts center of the highest caliber that the entire community can enjoy and that will be a nucleus and focal point for the board, diverse performing arts community of San Antonio and Bexar County.

The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts essentially will be a collection of completely new facilities set inside the shell of the Municipal Auditorium which will keep its iconic facade and twin cupolas.
Inside will be a 1,750-seat main performance hall with adjustable, world-class acoustics, 27 luxury boxes and mezzanine and balcony seating. Featuring exceptional sound, acoustics and seating arrangements, The Tobin Center will become the finest performance facility in the San Antonio Area.
In addition, the facility will contain a 230-seat Studio Theater which can be used for performances, rehearsals and community events.
Outside a dramatic Riverwalk entrance, will be a performing arts plaza with a 600-person seating capacity for outdoor performances.
In 2008, The Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation assumed ownership from the City of both the Municipal Auditorium and Fire Department Headquarters building and will go forward as the owner and operator of The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
