Laundry

The Laundry Department provides laundry services for all detainees who are incarcerated at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. They provide a daily work environment for detainee labor to wash, dry, and fold uniforms, bedding, smocks, mop heads, and sandals. The Laundry department personnel work in both the main jail facility and at the annex. The employees provide for laundry exchange services after laundry is washed and dried properly in accordance with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. There is a fairly large logistics effort considering that there may be 3,600 to 3,800 incarcerated detainees any day of the week. Gradually the department has been able to reduce the age of the equipment and improve the efficiency of the department. Last year, there were 2,812,945 pounds of laundry sorted, washed, dried, and folded. There were 239,450 exchanges of laundry. Finally, 2,480 detainees were utilized in the laundry operations.

Commissary and Food Service

The Commissary and Food Service Departments are separate departments that come under the management oversight of the Jail Support Services Division. They ensure that each customer receives prompt, professional, friendly, and courteous service. Every customer is treated with respect and dignity that they deserve.

Over 12,000 meals are prepared and delivered on a daily basis. Over 300 commissary orders and 250 iCare orders are delivered daily. This last year, a new commissary ordering system (Go-Cart) was implemented which has improved customer service.
