BOB HAMPEL joined the Bexar County Information Technology Department as Deputy CIO in July 2011.
The Deputy CIO supports the Bexar County Information Technology Department and the County organization in all technology areas: strategy, policy, planning, operations, budgeting, and administration. Mr. Hampel’s specific areas of expertise include IT project management, client relationship management, performance metrics, organizational change and technical and strategic communication.
Mr. Hampel brings 20+ years of professional and leadership experience in information technology, human resources, and local government to the Deputy CIO position. Previously, he has served Bexar County as the Human Resources & HR Information Systems Manager. His other public-sector experience includes Director of Compensation and Employment Support for Northside ISD, and as a Captain (Behavioral Scientist) in the United States Air Force.
His private-sector experience includes Information Technology Systems Director for Clear Channel Worldwide, the world’s largest radio broadcasting and outdoor advertising company. In addition, Mr. Hampel has served as a private consultant to the Information Technology Division of USAA’s Property & Casualty Insurance Company.
Born in New York City and raised in northwestern New Jersey, Mr. Hampel earned a Senate appointment to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Behavior, including extensive coursework in the engineering and leadership disciplines.
Mr. Hampel is a contributing member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), IEEE Computer Society, and the Project Management Institute (PMI).
