Jay S. Norton - Chief of the Criminal Trial Division
Jay S. Norton is the Chief of the Criminal Trial Division of the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office. He is responsible for the daily supervision of, as well as ensuring the training and mentoring of all Assistant Criminal District Attorneys assigned to the felony trial courts of Bexar County.
Jay is a native of San Antonio. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from St. Mary’s University and his Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University School of Law. Jay began his legal career in 1985 at Bexar County Legal Aid. In late 1986, Jay joined the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney. Jay served as an Assistant District Attorney for six years before entering private practice as a criminal defense attorney. Jay has successfully tried hundreds of cases as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, in both state and federal court and has over 30 years of experience practicing law.
Jay has extensive trial experience encompassing all classes and degrees of criminal cases including the most serious felony offenses under Texas law. He has been licensed to practice law by the Supreme Court of Texas since 1985.
