Trap Neuter Release (TNR)

All animals that are collected by Bexar County Animal Control are taken to the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services for shelter. The procedure for cats at ACS is different from dogs. ACS has a Trap, Neuter, and Release Program for cats. Basically, what that means, is the cat is brought into ACS and spayed or neutered. Then the cat’s ear is clipped to designate that is has been fixed. Finally, the cat is released back where it was captured.

Traps
Bexar County Animal Control does have a traping program for both dogs and cats. If you would like to request a trap please contact us at (210) 335-9000. Traps are limited and available on a first come, first provided basis. NOTE: traps are not set or checked on weekends.

Participants in the program are responsible for the trap and the animal inside the trap until a Bexar County Animal Control Officer can collect the animal. This may include feeding and watering the animal.

***It is important to note that while Bexar County will trap cats. Our sheltering partner, ACS, has a Trap Neuter Release Program. Typically, when a cat is captured by a trap it will be spayed or neutered and released back into the area from which it was captured.
